Why mod when you can create?

Welcome to our new dev log post, where we show you what we are working on and features not yet seen. Today we are showing you for the first time a small feature in our game that will turn you into a GOD.

Did you ever look at a game level and think "Well that is a nice map, but if I was the one making it I would do this instead"?

In that case, we have something cool to show you.

Presenting the Architect.

As an Architect you will be able to build your own levels for yourself, your friends, and other players to play. Although what we are about to show you is still a limited early version of it, we were way too excited to not reveal it already.

So keep in mind the following:

  • Everything here is in development so it might change (and if it does it will be to improve it).
  •  Nothing has been sped up. It is all in real-time.
  • This is real "gameplay" footage, not concept art or a scripted scene.

If you decide to play as an Architect you will soon find out that building a world is not only fun but also fairly intuitive and easy. We are trying to make this into an experience that doesn't require any previous experience in game design and that you don't end up spending hours trying to get that stone corner to match the rest.

In little more than 10 seconds you can build some stone cliffs with swamp lakes for example.

Add some items like barrels and stones

And even create your ideal floor with our tilesets.

And if you change your mind or want to make something different you can always move items, remove or flip them for example.

And this is just the beginning, we are working on so many options that we hope you will enjoy. From critters to NPCs, custom-made quests and so much more. We can't wait to see what you can create with it all.

Thank you for reading this development diary for Portal Fantasy. We will keep them until the game is finished, and if you are interested, please add the game to your wishlist on STEAM!

About the game

Portal Fantasy offers two different play styles: hero and architect. As a Hero, you can explore different worlds, befriend monsters, raise them, and make them fight. The Architect is then responsible for creating maps with tilesets that support the adventures of the Heroes.

Looks cool. Can't wait to see some more of the monsters of the game

Nice. I like the mario maker vibes with RPG

Thanks, that was the angle we were aiming it to be. I can't wait to have this in the players' hands and see what great stuff you folks can create.

Wow that looks really simple to use ! Will it just be used for this kind of dungeon look or other style of levels?

The plan is for you to be able to use any of the game assets we create on the base game. So not only dungeons but also forests, desert, etc.
You can then populate them not only with items like the stones and barrels we showed here as an example but also with NPCs, quests, and all sorts of things. Pretty much the limit is your imagination and the game assets we create (yes all game assets are made in house)

Can we set the NPCs to do certain tasks for example, talk to them and they push a lever or something?

Yep. Funny enough this is something that our team is working on this week. Without spoiling very much I can tell you the architect mode has a separate section called interactions. These will be not just the NPCs but other items like doors, switches, etc.

This really cool even for a first build. Really curious to see how it develops.

Yeah, we are pretty excited to show it off. That is why we didn't even wait until we had a more polished version of it ;)
